Obituary

On the morning of May 25, 2021, Elaine Belyea, beloved daughter, wife, mother, and grandmother passed through the veil after a very short but courageous and heart breaking battle with pancreatic cancer. Elaine is preceded in death by her parents, Edgar Augustine Thurman and Winsloe Margaret Reynolds. She is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Byard C. (Chuck) Belyea, Jr., Her children, daughter, René Belyea Richardson, her husband, Eric Elton Richardson, Elaine's sons, Byard C. Belyea, III and Edgar Barrett Belyea and her precious grandchildren, Britton Eric Richardson and Sabrina René Richardson, all of Virginia.

Elaine grew up in Salem, Virginia, graduated Class President and Valedictorian, Class of '64, Salem High School and later from Virginia Tech with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with minors in Math and Accounting where she met her future husband. They were married after graduation in the Fall of 1968.

After living on Ford Bliss, TX, in Mainz, Germany and Maryland she, her husband and children settled in Clifton, Virginia where she went to work for Fairfax County Public Schools at Centre Ridge Elementary. She eventually specialized in working with at-risk and special needs children and enjoyed tremendous success. She believed that there were no "learning disabilities" only "teaching disabilities" and children learn better when they know they are loved unconditionally. And Elaine Belyea did!

Elaine was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She was a warrior in the pursuit of truth and determinedly served her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ all of her days. Elaine served in many positions but especially enjoyed teaching youth. She was a beloved Early Morning Seminary Teacher for 15+ years. Additionally, she taught Institute classes in Religion to young adults in the Centreville, VA Stake for 5 years. After retirement from Fairfax County, she served with her husband as a Church Service Missionary on 9, six month tours. Elaine was also very passionate about genealogical research and performing proxy work for deceased loved ones in the Washington, D.C and Boston, Massachusetts Temples.

The Belyea/Richardson family thanks the members of the Centreville 2nd Ward, Centreville, VA and the Plymouth Ward, Plymouth, Massachusetts and the doctors and nurses at Capital Caring Hospice, for their loving immeasurable service and care of Elaine.

She will be laid to rest on June 2, 2021 at Quantico Veterans Administration Cemetery, Quantico, Virginia. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be sent to the American Cancer Society.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on June 3, 2021 at the Centreville, VA Stake Center of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 14150 Upperridge Dr, Centreville, VA 20121
