Deacon William A. Sprow was born on July 28, 1924 in Manassas, Va., to the late Charles and Lucinda Sprow. On October 9, 2020, God called him home to receive his crown. One of William's greatest attributes was caring, sharing and taking care of family members and friends.
William attended Manley and Manassas Industrial School in Manassas, Va. On June 5, 1945, he married his childhood sweetheart and the love of his life, the late Rachel L. Sprow . From this union, they had two children, Helen and Marshall Sprow.
William was a faithful member of Dean Divers Baptist Church, Manassas, Va. and First Baptist Church, Manassas, Virginia for 75 plus years. He served on the Deacon Ministry, Trustee Ministry, Chairperson of the Tuesday Mid-Day prayer service, Men's Ministry and Bus Ministry.
William was a lifetime member of the Improved Benevolent Protective Order of Elks of the World, joining in 1952. He served as the Exalted Ruler of Bull Run Lodge #698 and several other stations. William was a member of the Northern Va. Council, Virginia State Association and the Grand Lodge. He served as District Deputy Grand Exalted Ruler for District #1 and 1A in Alexandria, Winchester and Front Royal, Va. He was a member of James H. Hayes/ Bull Run Lodge. William was also, a member of the Midland Masonic Lodge #238, in Midland Va.
William believed in providing for his family. He worked as an automobile mechanic for 20 years at Eustace Merchant Ford in Manassas, Va., then he decided to make a career change and worked for the IBM Cooperation in Manassas, Va. for another 17 years in the Facilities Department, until his retirement in 1987.
Deacon William Sprow is survived by his daughter Helen Sprow; son Marshall Sprow (Theresa); sister Francis Gary; grandson Todd Sprow; granddaughter Patrice Peyton (Kevin); great grandson Levi Peyton; and a host of nieces, nephews and his special close friend, Deacon Carroll Braxton.
