Obituary for Rosa Althea Robinson Sye

March 1, 1936 - August 18, 2021
Centreville, Virginia | Age 85

On the eve of August 18,2021 our beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and soon to be a great great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, Rosa Sye received her wings at home surrounded by her children and grandchildren. Now she is resting in eternal peace.

Rosa was born on March 1, 1936 in Fairfax County, Virginia, daughter of Russell and Esther Robinson. She attended Cub Run and Luther Jackson of Fairfax County. She was joined in holy matrimony to the late James Edward Sye Sr. on September 10, 1955. With this union they were blessed with three children.

She was baptized by the late Rev. Roger V. Bush and became a member of Mount Olive Baptist Church on July 20, 1958. On February 11, 1979, she joined Mount Pleasant Baptist Church. She served as a devoted usher at both churches until standing was unbearable, however, she still sat with the ushers. She loved meeting with the Senior Ministry for bible study every Tuesday until the beginning of the pandemic.

She loved planting flowers and working in her flowerbeds, watching westerns on TV, and doing her word search books when outside work wasn't possible. She was also a member of the famous Silver Threads where she served as treasurer.

Everyone who met her felt loved and was always welcomed in her home, where you could always hear her asking; "Can I get you something?" She would host Christmas gatherings and cookouts for the Silver Threads and Senior Ministry of Mount Pleasant. She was famous for her lime salad, delicious yeast rolls, baked beans and pound cake. She often hosted Thanksgiving dinner for as many as 40 family members. Christmas breakfast was always a treat with fried apples and fried oysters on the menu.

She leaves to cherish her memory her three children; James Edward Sye Jr.. (Jimmy), Vanessa Linda Sye, Gregory Edwin Sye I (Charlene); eight grandchildren: Crystal (Michael), Gregory II (Terra), Leah (Marcus), Jannette (Jim), Annette, Alayna (Taryn), Adam (Tyler), Amanda (Adero) and the late Winfred Martin; nine great grandchildren: Monique, Alyssa, LJ, Jacéon, Bryce, Austin, Jaxson, Kaylyn, Dylan; three surviving siblings: Russell Mansfield Robinson Jr., Barbara Ewell, Eric (Ricky) Robinson; three sisters-in-law: Valerie, Barbara Ann and Joan; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and loving friends.

In My Heart
I thought of you today.
But that is nothing new.
I thought about you yesterday.
And days before that too.
I think of you in silence.
I often speak your name.
Now all I have are memories.
And your picture in a frame.
Your memory is my keepsake.
With which I'll never part.
God has you in his keeping.
I have you in my heart.
