Obituary

On Monday, April 26, 2021, Lee Roosevelt Banks(Tinker), devoted husband of Claudia Elane Russell Banks and loving father of two children, Melinda Antoinette Banks Williams and Monica Christin Banks Jackson passed away at the age of 72.
Lee was born in Fredericksburg, VA on May 3, 1948 to Charles Fred Banks Sr. and Jerrylean (Toliver) Banks. He graduated from George Washington Carver High School in Culpeper, VA in 1967. After high school he joined The United States Army and received a Commendation Medal for meritorious service in the Republic of Vietnam during the period April 1969 to April 1970. He was honorably discharged on November 12, 1970. After living in East Orange, NJ for a brief period, Lee returned to Virginia in 1972. He began employment as a drywall mechanic with his brother Eliza Banks (Eli), where he worked as a drywall hanger and finisher. After 23 years of working with his brother, Lee ventured out on his own and started Lee R. Banks Drywall which he owned at the time of his passing.
Lee along with his wife Claudia raised their children at Little Union Baptist Church, Dumfries, VA where he served as a Trustee and member of the Male Chorus. He also served at First Baptist Church Watson in Leesburg, VA where he was ordained as a Deacon on November 14, 1999 under the leadership of Rev. Joshua W. Speights, Jr., a son of Little Union. Ministry became his mission later in life. He accepted the call to preach the gospel and was licensed to preach on March 18, 2012 at First Baptist Church Watson under the leadership of Pastor Joseph L. Smith, Jr. Lee later returned to Little Union Baptist Church where he served as a minister and was dedicated to his church family until his last day.
Lee had a passion for golfing and always took advantage of his free time to golf with friends. He also participated with several golf organizations. He was a member of The Hackers Club and he served as the Historian for the Senior Golfers of Virginia. Lee and Claudia enjoyed bowling in their early years as a joint activity. He was known for being kind and compassionate and he was always willing to lend a helping hand. Whomever he made friends with became like family.
Lee was preceded in death by his father, Charles Fred Sr., his mother, Jerrylean, his brother, Charles Fred Jr. and his sister Louise Roberts and two brothers-in-law, Eugene Roberts and Elroy Campbell. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Claudia, his two daughters, Melinda and Monica, one son-in-law, Julius Jackson, six grandchildren, Nathan, Javon, Jalen, Joshua, Olivia and O'Neal, one great-grandson, Jeremías, three siblings, Ruby Mae Campbell, Herbert Daniel and Eliza Sr.(Jackie) and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Lee also was a special father figure to Tom and Cathy Almonte and their son Brian.
