Humes Alvin Gregory, Sr., 86, of Stafford, VA, passed away on Tuesday, July 27, 2021, at the Bon Secours Memorial Center, Mechanicsburg, VA, surrounded by his family. He was born January 5, 1935, in Uniontown, PA, the son of the late Aaron A. Gregory and the late Anna Humes Gregory of Uniontown, PA. He was the youngest of 7 children

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Alma Corinne Muse of Dahlgren, VA; second wife, Mary Magdalene Stuckey of Johnsonville, SC, and daughter, Nina Loretta Mudd, of Winchester, VA.

Humes graduated from the Uniontown school system. He volunteered for the Marine Corps and was inducted on July 5, 1954, where he served for 20 yrs. During this time, he held various positions ranging from tank commander, supply chief, to drill instructor. He also received awards as an expert rifleman, a Meritorious Award, and three ribbons while in Vietnam. After retirement from the Marine Corps, he continued working as a bank security guard and a transportation driver.

Humes accepted Christ at an early age. He was a member of the St. Mark AME Church in Johnsonville, SC and became affiliated with the Little Union Baptist Church, Dumfries, VA, until his death.

Humes is survived by his four children, Stacy Simmons, Stafford, VA, Marcella Bushrod (Robert), Colonial Beach, VA; Humes Gregory, Jr., Youngstown, OH, and Clarissa Chandler, Newport News, VA; one stepson, Frank Curtis Greggs of Philadelphia, PA; one daughter in law, Shannon Gregory of Youngstown, OH; one son in law, Raymond Edward (Eddie) Mudd, Sr. of Winchester, VA. one sister, Glory Johnson (Wesley), of Chicago, IL; one sister in law, Inez (James) Singletary of Stockbridge, GA; one brother in law, Silas (Pete) Muse, King George, VA;17 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchild, and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

A Celebration of life Funeral Service will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday August 11, 2021, at Little Union Baptist Church, 17150, Batestown Road, Dumfries, VA, 22025.

Family will receive relatives and friends one hour before the start of the service.

Interment will be at the Quantico National Cemetery in Triangle, VA. following the service.
