Obituary for Howard Anthony Peele

February 22, 1952 - February 7, 2021
Stafford, Virginia | Age 68

Howard Anthony Peele, 68, was born on February 22nd, 1952 to Charlie & Agnes Peele in Ahoskie, North Carolina. He received his formal education in Hertford County Public School systems where he received his High School Diploma.

At an early age, a hard work ethic was instilled in him by his parents, especially his father who was enlisted in the United States Army, but he loved his leisure time. He had several jobs prior to staying with VDOT for almost 40 years and retired in 2016. Even during his retirement, he still chose to do side jobs when he got tired of staying at home. Even as a man of leisure, he also loved being on the move. Whether it was staying locally or just going for a drive, he loved being behind the wheel.

Howard spent most of his time watching the Cowboys play, sitting on a comfortable couch watching T.V., enjoying a hearty meal, and spending time with his family and friends. He was such an amazing soul, that when you met him, he became family. He would help you move, give you a ride, and give you his last, just because he wanted to help. Although he was a bigger man, his heart was bigger.

In 2011, he lost his wife, Shirley, of 29 years. They had two beautiful daughters: Christina & Ashley. They spent their weekends getting brunch and making their rounds to both sides of the family.

Howard is preceded in death by his wife of 29 years, Shirley, his parents Charlie & Agnes, and his brother Curtis Lee Peele. Howard is survived by his children, Christina (Alice) of Front Royal, VA and Ashley of Nitro, WV. Howard is survived by his brother Mervin (Marian) of Washington, D.C., Angela Carter of Gainesville, FL and Carol (Kenneth) Robinson of Jacksonville, FL. He leaves one grandchild, Anthony, who was his shadow. He is survived by several nieces and nephews: Fonda Peele & Ben Montgomery, Marshall & Miles Peele, Chante & David Carter and Kimberly (John) Green and a host of great nieces and nephews.
He will be greatly missed by his best friend Duke Hargett, Godson: Calving Hargett and his "adopted" daughter Randi King.

After such a short life, Howard passed away comfortably after dealing with two strokes and Covid-19 on February 7th, 2021. His family was able to say goodbye just a few days prior.

Howard will be cremated, and family will receive friends at Ames Funeral Home, 8914 Quarry Rd., Manassas, VA, 20110 on Friday, February 19th from 10-11 am. Services to follow. To view the services remotely, please click on the following link:
