Gloria Bandy's Obituary

Gloria Wallica Taylor Bandy was born on Dec, 23, 1936, to the late Leon and Mary Marsh Taylor Sr. God chose to take His beautiful daughter home on July 20, 2020. Gloria was the fourth of six children. She has joined her parents and all her siblings, except one, in Heaven.
Gloria, affectionately known to her family as Lish, was born in Browns, Alabama, but grew up in Osaka, Virginia. She attended Virginia Union and Virginia Seminary College where she graduated with honors. Gloria received her BA in English and taught in Wise County School District before meeting the love of her life, Virgil Bandy.
Virgil and Gloria were married on September 20, 1958. From their union, five children were born; Virgil "Kim", Timothy, Teri Lynn, Keri, and Sheri. Gloria loved her family and it gave her the greatest joy to participate in family time. She always made it a "Big Deal" There was always food, fun, games and singing. Gloria was all about her children. She was on every board, PTA and school leadership committee there was. Gloria attended football & soccer games, piano recitals, band concerts, marching band competitions, parades, girl scouts and wrestling matches cheering on her babies. She loved to win at games herself, whether she was beating her husband or her children. She was a hard worker, an excellent cook, and the best Mommy in the whole world!
Once her youngest was of school age, Gloria returned to the work force. In, 1975, she became the first African American General Registrar in the Northern Virginia Region in the City of Manassas Park. She served in this position for over 20 years.
Gloria was also a faithful and dedicated member of First Baptist Church, Manassas for over 50 years. She held many offices there including being the Church Clerk. Along with her loving husband, she raised her children in the fear and admonition of the Lord, surrounded in the love of the FBC Family.
Gloria Bandy is survived by her sister, Helen Hall, five children-Kim, Tim, Teri, Keri and Sheri, five grandchildren-Virgil II, Athena, Jonathan, Andre and Yvonnalyn, three great grandchildren-Ceraya, Savien and Channing; 1 sister in-laws, Leatrice Taylor and a host of relatives and friends. Gloria also leaves some specials friends who chose to adopt her-Harry Sykes, Lawrence "Buck" Buchanan, Ida Lee, Zowie Lankford, and many others. Gloria loved everyone she met and was loved by all who met her! She will forever be in our hearts!
