Obituary

Erik O'Brian Newman was born on March 23, 1965 and went home to glory on August 4, 2020. He was the son of Robert and Barbara Jean Newman of Woodbridge, VA. Erik was raised in Woodbridge, where he resided until his death.
Erik attended Prince William County schools and is a graduate of Woodbridge Senior High School. While attending Woodbridge, his love of music was cultivated as he was a member of the symphonic band, marching band, all-county, all-regional, and all-state bands. He was well-known for his skills with his beloved tuba and sousaphones. He loved playing in the band and often shared fond memories of his favorite music and directors.
Erik gave his life to Christ at the age of 12 and joined the Ebenezer Baptist Church. He later joined the First Baptist Chesterbrook, while his father was Pastor. During the last few years, Erik frequently spoke about his relationship with God and how grateful he was to have it restored. He worked for Fairfax County Public Works and Park Authority, William Enterprises, and Hilton Enterprises.
Erik loved music, dancing, playing, and watching sports. He was a football fanatic, and on Sundays in the fall, he could be found cheering on his New York Giants. Erik played sports throughout his childhood and continued as an adult. As a young adult, Erik played in the Virginia Men's Flag Football League with his brother, where they traveled around Virginia competing against other teams. He was also an avid fan of NASCAR and enjoyed watching races at the Richmond Speedway.
Erik leaves to cherish his memory his parents, Pastor Robert and Mrs. Barbara Newman of Winchester, CA, a brother, Emmanuel (Maria) of Winchester, CA, a sister, Michelle of Woodbridge, VA, two nieces, Lauren Patricia of Woodbridge, VA, Nichella (Jacob) of Joint Base Lewis McChord, WA, two nephews, Enzo and Marco both of Winchester, CA, four great-nephews, Montez, Nikolas, Joziah, Isaiah, and a great-niece, Kyarra, two uncles, Howard (Louetta) and Lawrence (Ann), one aunt, Shirn, and a host of cousins and friends to cherish his memory.
