Tribute & Message From The Family

Sunrise Sunset
October 25, 1939 August 24, 2020

On August 24, 2020, God called his last Angel of the Johnson family to eternal rest. Joyce was the tenth child, born October 25, 1939, to Lloyd M. and Annie M. Johnson, whom preceded her in death. She received her education in Prince William County, and retired from the Federal Government after 31 years of service. She also worked for several years at Dumfries Elementary School with the preschool children, which she dearly loved.
Joyce was a faithful member of Little Union Baptist Church and was baptized there in June 1953, by Reverend Peter Carter. As a member of Little Union, she served on many ministries, including serving as the Assistant Church Clerk, a member of the first Gospel Chorus, the Unionnettes, and the Food Committee. She loved attending services, as she loved her church. As her health declined, she continued to attend and support her church. When she couldn't, she adapted to watching online from home.
Joyce was a devoted mother, grandmother, and a dear friend to all that knew her. She always had a kind word and smile for all that she met. She loved to talk to people. She leaves to cherish her memory: two daughters, Kathy A. Johnson, and Tonya L. Durden; one granddaughter, Charvii D. Smith; one grandson, Taelen W. Hall; one sister-In-Law, Mary L. Johnson; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Joyce was a loving woman with a kind spirit, who will be missed by many. She will hear her Lord say the words she longed to hear: "Well done, my good and faithful servant."

My aunt Joyce was such a special woman to me. She always had me laughing with the crazy hilarious stories should would tell me. I couldn't help but laugh and smh (shake my head). I have memories of her and my grandma better known as Miss Sis talking for hours on the phone when I was up there spending the night at grandma's. They would be just a laughing at all the crazy stuff. I'm going to truly miss my aunt Joyce. She left me with one saying that I will take with me, and that is the word, Now! If she would tell us about something that happened and it made you feel like saying Wow! you replace it with Now! LOL. I'm never going to let our family forget her word, Now! Rest on my dear aunt Joyce. You've touched many lives for sure, especially the young people's. Say hello to my grandma/grandad for me! I love you and miss you already.

Nothing in this world will ever compare to the love of my grandma. We had a bond that only we will ever understand. She was my best friend, my role model, my confidante. It's a blessing that God chose me to be her granddaughter. To experience life with her, to watch and learn from her, and to be able to carry the torch that's been passed down to our family. I love you so much, Grandma. We will always be Frick and Frack, and you are always my right hand. Thank for being so kind, selfless, and compassionate to everyone you met, and for showing me what it means to be a woman of God. I pray for strength for myself, my family, and all those that knew her. Though she may be away from her earthly body, she is at home with the Lord. Getting all those stars in her crown. Hold my place for me. I know you'll greet me with open arms. I long for that day. Thank you to everyone for your condolences, kindness, and prayers. I love you from the bottom of my heart, Grandma.

My Aunt Joyce was the kind of person that you would be crazy about. She was 80 but looked and acted like she was 50. She was the last of the Johnson family and she told me that one day she would be with her parents, my mother (Lucille) and the rest of her sisters and brothers. To Kathy, Tonya, Charvii and Taelen, God saw her pain and called her home and I know she is at peace. Sleep on Aunt Joyce, get your rest. You will forever be in my heart. Until we meet again.

I first met Joyce while visiting my wife at Dumfries Elementary School, unknown to me my wife told Joyce I was coming . As I walked in there she was sitting at the front entrance. She said to me "You must be Tom, I've heard a lot about you, nice to meet you I'm Joyce." I said Hi Joyce I've heard a lot about too nice to meet you, as she pointed me towards the office she smiled and said, " Oh and if Angie don't do right you let me know, I'll be your your girlfriend but all I can give you is a pack of crackers and a bottle of water, I couldn't stop laughing after that I was still laughing when I walked into the office ,my wife said you must have met Joyce. So that's what I'll miss about you Joyce your smile and your sense of humor you always kept me smiling. I love you Joyce and by the way thanks for the water.

Was a spiritual good person always with a smile on her face. she and I worked together at Dumfries Elementary School, and she always had a kind and enchanting word. She and I talked practical sometimes twice a week discussing old times we shared. She will truly be missed by me and I know she is alright in the Arms of the Blessed Savior, resting. Joyce, you made your mark here on this earth and now, you are in a place where there is nothing but rest. Peaceful sleep. Your friend David Clemons.
