Gloria, affectionately known to her family as Lish, was born in Browns, Alabama, but grew up in Osaka, Virginia. Virgil and Gloria were married on September 20, 1958. From their union, five children were born; Virgil "Kim", Timothy, Teri Lynn, Keri, and Sheri. Gloria loved her family and it gave her the greatest joy to participate in family time. She always made it a "Big Deal" There was always food, fun, games and singing. Gloria was all about her children. She was on every board, PTA and school leadership committee there was. Gloria attended football & soccer games, piano recitals, band concerts, marching band competitions, parades, girl scouts and wrestling matches cheering on her babies. She loved to win at games herself, whether she was beating her husband or her children. She was a hard worker, an excellent cook, and the best Mommy in the whole world!
Once her youngest was of school age, Gloria returned to the work force. In, 1975, she became the first African American General Registrar in the Northern Virginia Region in the City of Manassas Park. She served in this position for over 20 years.
