Tribute & Message From The Family
Karrie Mae Johnson Cooper, affectionately known to family and friends as "Kay" was born on May 17, 1940 to the late Annie Mae Kitt and Karey Johnson in Orangeburg, South Carolina. On Friday, May 15, 2020, an Angel was sent from Heaven to usher Karrie into the loving arms of her Savior. The Lord called Karrie home to receive her crown. Her assignment here on earth was finished. She responded to His call and is now resting in eternal "Peace and Love."
Karrie accepted Christ as her personal Savior and the Head of Her Life at an early age. She was a faithful and loving, member of Shiloh Baptist Church of Manhattan for many years before transferring her membership to Co-Op City Baptist Church in the Bronx for over 14 years, her commitment to the ministry, service to God and others was unshakable. She was a soldier in the Army of the Lord, a prayer warrior and enjoyed sharing her love of Jesus with everyone she met.
Karrie received her early education in the Orangeburg County school system. Upon graduation from high school, she relocated to New York City where she continued her education at Bronx Community College.
On May 30, 1959, Karrie married the love of her life Joseph Franklin Cooper, Sr. and were blessed with four beautiful children, Catherine, Dennis, Angela and Joseph, Jr.
Karrie was a loving dedicated mother and a caring person who loved her family and friends. She was a very passionate person and found great joy in her chosen profession as a healthcare provider. She was at her happiest preparing meals and attending to other residents in her complex. She loved people and they loved her; Karrie dedicated her life to caring and helping those in need. offering endless hours to help others; with Karrie, friends became family.
Karrie was preceded in death by her husband Joseph, Sr., five sisters, and four brothers.
Our Angel in disguise memories will always be treasured by her loving children: Catherine, Dennis, Angela, Joseph, Jr., and daughter-in-law, Pamela; Sisters; Nelease Williams, Virdonia Caldwell, Mamie Caldwell, and Estelle Blackman (William); Karrie's grandchildren: Shaun, Robert, Jason, Melikah, Starasia, Keshia, Christopher, Natasha, Diamond, Kayla, Justin, Michael, Xavier, Londyn; 10 great- grandchildren; one of which she raised as her own from the age of 4yrs, (honorary great-granddaughter Ashaunti Collins); one brother-in-law, Leroy Cooper; two sisters-in-law, Rebecca Cooper and Luddie Cooper; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, other relatives and close friends.
Our family is left with countless memories that are held dear, including many family gatherings, celebrations, and travels. We know you will be watching over us until we are together again. You will live in our hearts and are part of each of us forever.

To our Aunt Kay, you were a wife, a mother, a grandma too.
This is the legacy we have from you.
You taught us love and how to fight,
You gave us strength, you gave us might.
A stronger person would be hard to find,
And in your heart, you were always kind.
You fought for us all in one way or another,
Not just as a wife not just as a mother.
For all of us you gave your best,
Now the time has come for you to rest.
So go in peace, you've earned your sleep,
Your love in our hearts, we'll eternally keep.
Love, Nieces and Nephews

Grandma, I was deeply saddened to hear that you had passed. Although you are gone, the memories of you will not be forgotten. I'm reminded of you when I think of my childhood summer vacations, our birthdays, the laughs we shared, the cooking advice you gave and much more. I'm so happy you were able to video chat with Knowledge although you did not meet him in person. We love you, rest in peace.

My heart is broken, I'm smiling, laughing and crying. I'm remembering the first time my baby stayed with Aunt Kay and you young Coopers. Aunt Kay soothed my worries and had you kids sweep her up to the back room and all I heard was laughing. Aunt Kay said I told you go ahead and go I got her. I remember that reassuring smile and hug. That's my Aunt Kay.
