Tribute & Message From The Family

Ruth Throckmorton Armstrong was born in Oxford, NC on December 4, 1929 to the late George Throckmorton and Cora Amis Throckmorton. She transitioned from labor to reward on May 12, 2020 in the care of her family in Lorton, VA.

Ruth was a lifelong Baptist and member of Little Union Primitive Baptist Church in Elm City, NC. In addition to being the backbone of the family, and family farm, for many years, she worked at Reuben H. Donnelly in Elm City, NC for numerous years.

Ruth was educated in the Granville County public schools and graduated from Mary Potter Academy in Oxford, NC. She married Wille Armstrong, Sr. on November 10, 1948. They raised three sons over their 67 year union.

She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend; who was devoted to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Loving memories are cherished by her three sons, Willie E. Armstrong, Jr. of Alexandria, VA, James Garry Armstrong of Durham, NC, and Ervin "Randy" Armstrong (Connie) of Lorton, VA; three granddaughters, Tresha Armstrong of Dumfries, VA, Danielle Armstrong of Arlington, VA, and Maya Armstrong of New York, NY; daughter-in-law Patricia Mater of Durham, NC; sisters-in-law Sarah Louise Parker of Baltimore, MD, Hildred Throckmorton of Martinsville, VA; brothers-in-law James Armstrong of Philadelphia, PA and Arthur Armstrong of Elm City, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husband Willie Armstrong, Sr., grandson, Michael Armstrong, and seven siblings, Viola Villines, Lural Yancey, Mary Hayes Throckmorton, George Throckmorton, Jr., Gordon Throckmorton, Lessie Throckmorton and Willie Lee Throckmorton.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Little Union Primitive Baptist Church. Donations can be sent to 8473 Orchard Rd., Elm City, NC 27822.

The family thanks you for your many expressions of love, kindness, and concern extended to us during this time. Your prayers, words of encouragement and kind gestures have been a great source of strength.

The family hopes to memorialize Ruth's life with families and friends at a later date when it is safe for us all to do so. A private burial will be held in North Carolina next week.

Condolence & Memory Journal

To Willie and the Armstrong Family. Your Mother was quite a woman. I enjoyed spending time with her over the years at Willie's April cookout. She held court as the true queen she was. She will be missed. May your pain quickly recede and only leave beautiful, happy memories of your blessed Mother.
